About MSD Informatics

MSD Informatics develops and supports market leading clinical data management and support tools to the NHS. Set up over 13 years ago by Merck Sharp & Dohme, the team encompass a wealth of experience of working in different healthcare environments across the UK, with major contracts in Wales, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man to provide the GP Contract Payments Systems for the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF).

MSD Informatics provides a number of software solutions to assist practices and PCTs audit and manage patients. Clinical Manager installed at the practice will automatically extract clinical data from the practice management system (compatible with EMIS, iSoft, Vision) and process it using over 1800 pre-authored searches to provide detailed information to the practice across a range of national and local priorities for example the CHD and Diabetes NSFs, ethnicity, smoking and obesity. Automated feeds are also available to export anonymised and patient identifiable data to the PCT where MSD Informatics applications will allow the PCT to compare and assess how their practices are performing.

MSD Informatics has also been working closely with Sandwell PCT and The University of Birmingham to develop a risk stratification tool to identify and track patients with a high risk of developing CVD if left untreated.

Over 600 new searches have been written to identify and monitor those patients not on the CHD Register and include for example searches which track cholesterol LDL & HDL plus Triglycerides taken within the last 12 months.
